1975 Reliant Scimitar GTE

Made in Tamworth, Staffordshire, the Reliant Scimitar GTE was first released in 1968, an upgrade from the Scimitar GT coupe of 1965. For those would had always wished for a faster estate, the GTE seemed to be the perfect car. Demand was indeed strong, and by 1970, Reliant ditched the GT coupe, and concentrated solely on fulfilling orders for the GTE, selling them for a purchase price of £2398. The fact that both Prince Charles and Princess Anne were customers, made this car very desirable to be seen in, making Reliant’s orders soar.

The bodywork is glass fibre built on a steel box-section chassis. The engine is an all-iron Ford Essex ohv V6 capable of 138bhp, and a top speed of 120mph at 27mpg.

This particular 2994cc six-cylinder example was very generously donated to the Museum by Mr. Ladbury of Coventry in 2005. Mr. Ladbury purchased the vehicle from new in October 1975.

This vehicle can be seen in the Museum's Boomtown Gallery.
